Estera Knaap-Giurgi (1970) is a Dutch-Romanian documentary photographer. After a study of Mathematics in Cluj Napoca, she studied at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam where she graduated in December 2017. Her work focuses on the recent communist history of Romania, investigating the crimes of the system and the effects it had on the Romanian people. In long-term research-based projects she uses her own photography in combination with archival material to tell stories we must not forget.
